Lockyer District High School is a 1-1 BYOx Program for students in Year 8-12. Students in these year levels are required to attend school with their own device.
Bring your own 'x' (BYOx) means students bring their own digital devices to school, for the purposes of learning. The BYOx concept recognises that students benefit from using the same digital devices at school and at home.
The BYOx program aims to enhance the curriculum program to improve student learning outcomes through increased access to digital tools, learning resources and pedagogy.
The school has carried out extensive research and according to research; schools that migrate to a BYOx model enjoy many benefits, including:
- increased student motivation, confidence and engagement with learning because students are
- familiar with their devices
- greater autonomy in the classroom
- the maturing of students as digital citizens who embrace digital opportunities and responsibilities
- the normalising of technology use between the school and home
- greater opportunity for inter‐school collaboration.
Please be aware that there are some important challenges and considerations with BYOx.
- Not all devices are supported
- Although the school can provide Microsoft Office and some Adobe programs for free, additional software will need to be purchased by families. This will vary depending on subject selections.
- Students are responsible for the security, integrity, insurance and maintenance of their personal mobile devices and their private network accounts.
- IT Technicians will not be able to diagnose or repair BYO devices apart from issues with connecting to the school network. (It is possible some devices may not connect to the network) Repairs and warranty claims will need to be handled by families.
