Lockyer District High School recognises the importance of students receiving a broad-based education, comprising both academic and vocational subjects. Strong foundation studies in literacy and numeracy provide the basis for all learning experiences at Lockyer.
Senior students study 6 subjects offered from a wide range of academic (authority) subjects, authority registered (SAS) subjects and vocational (VET) subjects. The Queensland Studies Authority accredits these subjects. Vocational units of competency are included in a variety of VET subjects so school leavers can gain practical, work related skills.
Students in years 9 and 10 study a combination of subjects including core studies in English, mathematics, science and sose as well as elective subjects. The second semester of year 10 provides students with a “Step Into Senior” program which provides a transition from the middle years to the challenges of senior schooling.
All year 8 students study a selection of core subjects and complete one semester of specialist, practical subjects. Students in years 8 - 10 also access HRE, careers and religious education (optional). Subject selection booklets outline students’ choices in greater detail. This information can be found on the Lockyer District High School website.
A highly successful enrichment program caters for gifted and talented students. Students with learning difficulties are supported in distinct programs. A fully resourced Special Education program supports students with disabilities.
