A Musical Vision
Lockyer District State High School has a musical vision to mentor, motivate and encourage all students of the Arts to challenge what is and create what can be.
Our school's vision aptly reflects the ethos of the creative Arts Department in its entirety. We offer students the best opportunity in and out of the classroom and hope to inspire creativity. It is important to show our students what is achievable and interesting in our community and also outside the Valley community.
Our music program here at Lockyer State High School caters and assists all students by encouraging excellence in both Musical Performance and Musical Appreciation. With a comprehensive Curriculum including Classroom Music, Music Performance, Ensemble Performance, Music Theory/History and Music Education; we teach, encourage and prepare music students to pursue a variety of academic and music related courses. Our Music Department nurtures lifelong learning and enhances the local and regional community through school and community based performances of stylistically culturally diverse music, as well as through workshops, tutorials and Music Tutors.
Our school follows a holistic and enthusiastic approach which is used to engage students in classroom music education from the beginning of their Secondary Education to the completion of the Senior Music Program. The Classroom Music program works in correlation with the Bands and Ensembles to broaden their knowledge, understanding and enjoyment.
A Worthy Purpose
Our goal is to:
- provide quality instruction from professional musicians for the development of essential musical skills in performance and musicianship
- develop skills in critical thinking; enabling students to understand music in a broad cultural context
- encourage their abilities to create and understand music
- provide a rich cultural centre for the School Community through the presentation of solo, chamber and ensemble programs.
We do this by performing at the following items in the year:
- Annual Tour to the feeder primary schools including Vocal Ensemble/Strings/Concert Band/Jazz Band (where possible)
- Performances at our Sports/Cultural Award Nights
- Performance at the ANZAC ceremony at the School Campus
- Performances at Lockyer Valley Art Gallery
- Performance at our local Aged Care Facility
- Performance at the “Todays Youth in Music Education Festival" at USQ Toowoomba Campus
