Laptop Program

The BYO laptop program recognises that students benefit from using the same digital laptops at school and at home. Lockyer District High School understands that the BYO program may impose a financial cost on students and their families in supplying a laptop. At the same time, the program can only function if all students have access to appropriate technological resources across all their classes.

The purpose of the BYO Program is to establish the framework to have laptops for all students, irrespective of their families' financial means. Lockyer District High School is a 1:1 laptop program for students in Year 7-12. Students in these year levels are required to attend school with a laptop for the purposes of learning.

To ensure all students have access to the same learning outcomes, access to laptops is managed in three ways.

  1. Students bring their own personal laptop. This is the best option as it provides continuity for students as they own the device and have access the device both at school and at home.
  2. Students will use a school-owned device which they will check-in-out. Students will check out the device before Form each morning and return the device at 3.10pm. School-owned devices are not permitted to go home.
  3. Families apply (see Equity application form) for use of device under the equity scheme. Equity devices will allow students to take home a school-owned laptop for their use for school work purposes only (see information below).
Equity Laptop Loan Program

A limited number of Equity Student laptops are available for families experiencing severe financial hardship. If you wish to be considered for an equity laptop, please complete an application form and submit to your student's year level Deputy Principal via Student Services or email the application and attached evidence to equityprogram@lockyerdistrictshs.eq.edu.au. If emailing, in the subject line, indicate your student's year level so the correct year level deputy gets your application.

A school representative will then contact you. You will then complete the Acknowledgement of Equipment Loan Form and when the contract paperwork is completed and arrangements finalised, the IT department will set up and issue the laptop to the student.

If there are any issues with the laptop during the loan, it is important that students notify and visit the IT department immediately.

All laptops will be managed by the school, and subject to announcements and notifications directly to the laptop asking the students to visit IT for regular check-ups. Laptops must:

  • collected upon approval of application
  • be returned at the end of Semester 1 before the June/July holiday
  • collect at the start of term 3
  • be returned at the end of Semester 2 before the December/January holidays

Equity device approvals last for one school year.

If you require further information, please email equityprogram@lockyerdistrictshs.eq.edu.au

Is your device for learning being repaired?

Lockyer District High School understands that accidents do happen. If your student has found themselves needing to get a learning device as theirs is being repaired. Students need to follow the steps below:

  1. We ask that students present at school with a note from home describing the current situation/action plan for the device being repaired/replaced.
  2. Students will then speak to the Technical Room about the repairs and together they will work out a plan to borrow a check-in-out device until repairs are complete.

Strategies to maintain learning whilst device is being repaired, is the device:

  • Short-term (being repaired by a local technician): Students are encouraged to utilise a spare device from home (if available).  If not, they will utilise a check-in-out device.
  • If the laptop cannot be prepared, students can arrange a long-term check-in-out laptop, or apply (if appropriate) under the Equity program.

Indemnity:

Fair wear and tear are expected. For the duration of the borrowing of the device, I / we agree to indemnify Lockyer District High School against loss or damage cause whatsoever, to the device detained herein and, in the event of damage to restore or deliver such equipment to Lockyer District High School, in the condition in which it was received, or to replace the damaged equipment with other equipment of equivalent functionality.
