Dance

At Lockyer District High School students are fortunate enough to participate in our dance program via two different avenues.

Curriculum

Students may choose to study dance as part of our academic pathways from years 9-12. Within these classes students learn the fundamentals of dance education by studying choreography, performance and dance appreciation.

Our academic program is carefully sequenced, ensuring that each student in engaged with their learning whilst developing pride and confidence in their work. The course is designed to inspire each student to achieve their full academic potential whilst also learning the value of self-discipline and teamwork as they grow together and rely on each other to develop the necessary skills to create a performance.

Extra-Curriculum

Run through an audition process, the Lockyer District High School Dance Troupe is another avenue the students may wish to explore. The dance troupe is a highly successful competition dance team offered to students in years 7-12.

Students involved in the team will travel to competitions all over South East Qld as well as attend workshops throughout the year to develop and strengthen technique in the genres of contemporary, lyrical, jazz, musical theatre and hip- hop dance.

The Lockyer District High School Dance Troupe has worked very hard to establish a strong reputation for producing excellent results and talented, hardworking dancers- a reputation we look to continue building in the future.
