Year 9 Community Initiative

On Wednesday afternoon the 29th May, a group of our Year 9 students travelled down to Lake Apex to join with the Friends of Lake Apex (FOLA) Group. This group consisted of 16 Year 9 that had been selected by myself and Nick Schulz as part of our leadership group.

We arrived to find a group of FOLA members waiting for us to show us the ins and outs of tree planting; we were taught how to plant a tree correctly and how to give it the best possible start. So we set off working, our aim was to plant 45 trees in the dry rainforest area and as the saying goes many hands make light work, therefore we had it done in no time. We had to make sure to label each tree so that it could be identified, as well as put our name or something we would recognise on there so we would be able to go and have a look at the progression of the tree’s growth.

After we finished up everything we headed over to the other side of the lake to the barbeque area to enjoy some Subway and to have some more social time. Even though some of us made the mistake of going on a spinning ride after eating and ending up feeling awful, the afternoon was filled with fun and laughter, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We are looking forward to having more opportunities like this in the future.
