Year 8 Subject Selection Night

For grade eight students and their parents, subject selection is an important decision. This year, the school had an enormous group of interested families attending the annual selection night, which is a great way to meet teachers and other students, as well as a way of gaining some insight into the available subject choices.

The night was held on the 22nd October from six to seven pm at U-Block, with several information sessions held throughout the night. These sessions included a speech from Mr Andrew Pierpoint, the school principal, as well as Mr Head, the guidance officer, and Ms Englart, the deputy principal. Parents and students were able to ask questions as well, to gain more knowledge on the selection process.

To gain the information that parents and students needed, teaches and the HODs of subjects were positioned in different classrooms, where families could view the activities in subjects, and gain an overview of the subject choices available. All the classes that are available next year for the grade eight students had teachers present who were happy to talk to students and parents about the subject they were interested in prior to the students making their final decision.

Some of the subjects available were Drama, Music, German, Art, Home Economics, Food Studies, Shop A, Shop B, Graphics, HPE and  Business. Students had to choose two of these subjects that they want to study next year.

The Year Eight Subject Selection Night went extremely well, with lots of parents interested in the subject choices attending the night. This annual event will return next year, hopefully with even more families interested in their children’s subject choices.
