Welcome Back to 2013.

Welcome and Welcome Back to Lockyer District SHS in 2013.  Thank you for taking the time to read this, as we believe that our newsletter forms an important part of home school communication.

Thank you to all parents, teachers and students for the smooth start to 2013.  We have welcomed another 224 Year 8 students to our school from a wide range of primary schools within the Lockyer Valley and beyond.

I extend a warm welcome to the new families to our school.  Lockyer District High School has a school population of around 1100 students this year.  Our size means varied subject choice, wide range of extra-curricular activities and a broad range of educational and support services to assist students to do their best.

At Lockyer, we have high standards of our students and ourselves.  We believe that the expectations of always striving to meet the highest standards as a student and a person, as well as taking personal responsibility for our improvement as learners, are life-long expectations and go hand in hand in Belonging…..Believing and Achieving.

My best wishes are extended to those Lockyer families who have suffered from recent rains and flood events.  It seems unbelievable that floods again mar the start of our school year.  LDHS’ care team comprises of Guidance Officer Jeff Head, as well as Chaplains Pauline and Brad, School Nurse Justine Coulson and School-based Police Officer Camilla Kowaltzke.  If families require assistance due to flood, please contact the team through the Administration Office.

VALE Gary Quinn. It was very sad for our school when I announced to staff and students that our long-time Guidance Officer Gary Quinn had died.  Gary was a devoted family man, husband and father to three children, all past students and leaders of our school. Since Gary came to Lockyer in 1989, he has assisted hundreds of students, staff members and families in his role as Lockyer Guidance Officer.  He had a very fitting farewell on Wednesday when around 600 people attended his memorial service.  Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to his wife Joan, their three children and his extended family.

I remain very proud of the students and staff at Lockyer. Together, we have a good school.  Let’s all work together to continue to improve in everything we do.

Please remember that everyone is welcome to attend our P & C Meetings’ which are usually held on the 1st Monday of each month in the Administration Building commencing at 7.00pm.  We value your input.
