The Coffee School

Miss Fraser and Ms Edbrooke took thirteen year 12 students to Brisbane to The Coffee School for 5 hours intensive Barista Training.  Their training included organising and preparing the espresso machine for service, using the coffee grinder, extracting shots correctly, texturizing milks, making the many styles of coffee such as cappuccino, long black, macchiato and latte as well as cleaning the machine.  Together with their teachers we experimented and practiced many styles of coffee and some latte art techniques.  It was a great experience for all the students as they got to use an individual espresso machine with the trainer to help them along the way.   This unit of competency ‘Prepare and serve espresso coffee’ will contribute towards their Certificate II in Hospitality and has given them the consolidated practice they need to develop their confidence and skills to industry standard which we will be  applying to  function and Restaurant work this year.  The year 12 Certificate II students are looking forward to testing out their skills for the Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in May and Restaurants in Term 3 and Hospitality Studies students will apply their skills in their Restaurants starting early May.  It was a pleasure to take such a dedicated and passionate group of students on the trip and work alongside them throughout the day.
