The Annual LDHS Sports Awards

Lockyer District High School held its annual Sports Night on Wednesday the 23rd of October. Sports night is held to recognise all those who have excelled in their chosen sporting field. The night kicked off with a competitive aerobics performance by Jaclyn Weatherby. Jaclyn later paired up with Melanie Neundorf to co-host the evening.
The school's principal, Mr Pierpoint, addressed the crowd and then congratulated the swimming, cross country and athletics age champions. The encouragement awards were awarded to people who always participate in events for their team even if they do not win. Following this was an inspiring speech by guest speaker; Dr Paul Crouch-Chivers. Dr Crouch-Chivers has run over 100 marathons and several ultra-marathons all over the world. His speech encouraged everyone to push themselves just a little further every day. Mr Stewart Skinner had his traditional interview with the guest speaker b ut this year for the last time before he heads into his retirement.
Major award recipients received their large prizes and trophies. These included the Player of the Year awards, which were presented to those who excelled in their chosen sport. The presentations that followed were the Lockyer Cup and House Spirit Awards, Team of the Year and Coach of the Year and the Gary Quinn Memorial Award. This year the house of Kenny won the Gary Quinn Memorial Award.
The most prestigious awards of the night were Sportspersons of the Year. These were awarded to;
Junior Male Sportsperson of the Year:                   Leslie Snuderl
Junior Female Sportsperson of the Year:              Tara Reinke
Senior Male Sportsperson of the Year:                  Matthew Olive
Female Sportsperson of the Year:                           Casey Groskopf.

To close the night, the PE staff performed a competitive aerobics routine to the song, 'We Found Love'. Overall, it was a fantastic night for all to enjoy. Congratulations to the winners and nominees of the night and thankyou to all visitors and hosts.
