LDHS Student Leaders at Parliament House

Last month our School Captains, Matthew Olive and Caitlin Ruthenberg and Vice-Captains, Bodean Shea and Rachel Brown, visited Parliament House in Brisbane as guests of Mr Ian Rickuss, Member for Lockyer.  This opportunity proved to be a real privilege and a wonderful chance to meet some of our State’s leaders, including the Speaker of the House, Fiona Simpson, and the Minister for Education, Training and Employment, John-Paul Langbroek.

Our captains observed the spirited to and fro of Premier’s question time and were then taken on a private tour of Parliament House by Ian Rickuss and his wife, Ann.  Highlights of the day had to be a silver service lunch with Mr and Mrs Rickuss in Strangers Dining room, and a quick game of pool in the billiards room.  Ian Rickuss was generous with his time and advice for our captains, sharing ideas on leadership, education and future choices.  Our student leaders really enjoyed this rare experience.

Mr Mark Bray, Year 12 Co-ordinator accompanied the students on their visit to Parliament House.
