LDHS your local Microsoft Certification Testing Centre

23/05/2013

As part of a larger Education Queensland initiative LDHS has recently undergone a process to become a registered Microsoft Certification testing centre. This opens the way for your students to receive, as part of their existing course of study in business and ICT, official internationally recognised MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) certifications.

Contrary to what you may think the certificates actually represent a considerable level of skill and expertise. During the initial introduction of the courseware and materials to Darling Downs Region EQ staff, none of those present were able to complete the exam within the allotted time frame of 45 min. The average completion time for students from schools already running the program is 15 minutes. With this is mind we are excited to have the training environments and course material that accompanies the testing centre title. This will enable us to significantly advance the level of the learning that your students will be undertaking in this area as part of their existing courses of study.

One of the most exciting parts of the certification program is a competition run by Microsoft into which all students who take part in the certification exams are entered based on their accuracy and completion time. Each year a select number of the fastest, highest scoring students from around the world are flown to the US for a week to compete in the Microsoft World Titles. Last year a year 11 student from Toowoomba was one of those selected for this opportunity, competing for the Excel World Title.

It is hoped that in the near future we will be able to also offer this opportunity to the whole student body as an extra-curricular option.
